Katsunobu Nishihara

1972 Born in  Maki-e family in Hiroshima as a 2nd son.
His father is a 1st generation Maki-e artist who was specialized in Butsudan-Maki-e
1991 He went to Wajima, Ishikawa to study various traditional skills of all Urushi art.
Wajima is known as one of the oldest traditional Maki-e region in Japan.

1995 - While he was studying in Wajima, his work received an award at Japan Traditional Urushi Art Exhibition.
1996 - Returned to Hiroshima to his family and start helping his family's Butsudan Maki-e business.
1977 - His work received an award at Japan Traditional Urushi Art Exhibition again.
1999 - Japan Traditional Urushi Art Hiroshima region awarded his work.
2001 - He has been recognized and featured on "Art Hiroshima"(book)  article.
2003 - Award received from Japan Traditional Art Craft Exhibition.
2004 - He was featured on "Art Hiroshima"(book)  article again.
2006 - He received an award at Japan Traditional Art Craft (Hiroshima Branch) Exhibition.
2007 - He had a private exhibition of his works at the "Gallery G" in Hiroshima

Fukushima prefecture art exhibit invited artist.

Won a prize twice at Japan Fine Arts Exhibition.

Won prize 8 times at Japan New Art Craft Exhibition.

2002 - Honor membership awarded at Aizu Art Craft [Shinseikai]

2002 - Awarded by Japan Lacquer Craft Organization for his technical excellence.

2009 - Received conferment from the Japanese royal decoration system.
